someone call dr. freud

What's with my kiddos and the "Oral Fixation"?

Should I be concerned?

First there was Avery's deep love for thumb sucking.
I was cool with it...until her thumbnail started to look like this:

The Grand Canyon?
No.
My kid's fingernail.

Seriously, this blurry, sad little picture doesn't do it justice.
It is a sight to see..kinda like the 8th wonder of the World.
Or those nasty pictures in a Medical Journal.
Or maybe the scarey pictures in the back of What To Expect When You're Expecting.

You can literally see the ridge from where her teeth have created a groove in her nail. I guess it doesn't hurt, 'cause she just keeps on keepin' on.

It seems that the little guy has decided to join in the mouthy fun.

Do you see what's on his arm?
When I first saw it, I thought that Avery had bitten him.
Thankfully, there were no teeth marks.

Did you figure it out?
It's A HICKEY.

That's right. He gave himself a hickey.
What?!?

Oh goodness.

My stupid puppy chews on her own legs...I guess she got tired of being swatted for chewing on my shoes and decided self-inflicted pain was better.

(I am aware that my dog is not as important as your child) :)

I also remember one time as a young child putting a cup to my face and sucking...accidentally giving myself a huge round hickey all around my face. I was old enough to be embarassed.

I love the header!

Samuel hasn't become a thumb sucker yet. He puts his entire fist in his mouth however. We'll see.

one time lily's thumb got so raw (during a stressful move) that she actually switched to the other one for a while...crazy!

Oh, I can tell you won't have any shortage of CHarlie stories either with material like this!

you're not the only one with a self-hickey-giving baby. My second came out of the womb with an spot on his wrist where he had obviously been trying to find something to eat. That spot continued to be his pacifier for several months. Often with hickey rings all over it. lol

(i took pics too. future girlfriends and grandchildren must be shown....)

His first hickey! When I sucked my fingers I had a grove in one nail where my tooth would go. So sad.
