Goodwill Party

I gave it another go.

Because I'm crazy.
and because I love a bloggy party.
AND because Sarah called me a wus.
Me.
I'm sooo not a wus.
and just to prove it, I faced my fears head on and went back to the scariest place on earth.

The place where you can actually purchase things like this oh-so-modish piece of art:

or this faaaancy shoe doo dad:

this creepy head thingy:

or the ever present Goodwill staple:

You can get your very own foot-fungus-making machine:

or perhaps something a little more practical...

ugh. I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Just when I thought all hope was gone, like a beacon of light, a lovely little gem entered the room via squeaky rolly cart.

No. Not that.
That is the picture that you would see if Avery were writing this post.
She was so pumped about that crazy cash register. Especially when she found DORA play money inside.
Jackpot.

No - this is what I'm talking about...
Helloooo Little Lady!

$9.99 seemed a little steep for Goodwill to me, but it was too cute to pass up.

The best part? Since it was already painted, all it needed was a little cleaning, a little sanding... and a little more sanding.
So - I put my little munchkin to work. Kathy Lee style.

What a busy little worker bee!

Keep working! More sanding! More!

So easy even a two-year-old can do it.

I found myself covered in white dust after the sanding was over, but felt some serious satisfaction with the end result. I really enjoy painting and sanding furniture. It's kind of fun.
Every piece of furniture I "antique" brings me one step closer to getting the nerve up to distress my armoire...

See? I'm not a wus. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not!

ooo! I love the table.
Is Avery cheap? I might even throw in that cash register for her to come and do some sandin' at my home!

Great find! I would not have stepped foot inside Goodwill if I didn't have an experienced GW shopper with me. And I do wash Kenzie and I with hand sanitizer as soon as we get back to the car! The last time we went, Kenzie told me she had enough hand sanitizer to wash her face and arms too...I told her to go for it!

HA! Your last GW post made me laugh - and maybe feel a little bit unsophisticated since I DO frequent second hand shops - even a Good Will - every now and then :)

Congratulations on this amazing find!! It really is awesome.

I see you taking on the challenge and look what you came up with. Um, that head is rather scary...I can't believe there are so many pots at the GW...and Tampax???? That's deep.

I love your post! That just made me laugh out loud because I feel the EXACT same way when I go in except for the fact that I have never scored a piece like you! Great job and thanks for keeping it real!

Rollin' on the floor over here! Your right - our Goodwill is a little creepy. I feel like I need to don the lytex gloves and face masks when I visit.

The table is cute though!! Where you going to put it?

I tagged you with a fun summer list!

What a great table! All we have near us is a Goodwill "drop-off" which is basically full of big dumpsters- scary, very scary...

See! That's a great first find! $9.99 is a little steep for me at Goodwill, too. In fact, I hesitate at anything over $5. Unless it's something really good. But will you go back? That's the question.

Now that I have finished laughing my head off, I want to thank you for stopping by my blog. Goodwill is... well, it can hold great treasure if you're willing to deal with some yucky stuff. You found a gem of a table. Love it.

I seriously LOL'd at the tampons, but I think it is more my pending hysterectomy and the fact that I never have to use one again that made me giggle, not that they were at the goodwill cause that makes me want to vomit...

I love the table, it makes me want to put my gas mask on and give it a whirl, I have a hard time with the smells in that place, I prefer me some craigslist ;)

Jennifer ---you go girl for giving GW another shot. My GW is a lot like yours and TCD and I live really close to one another. I find more toities than treasures also

After reading your post, I am completely taken aback at how much you are like my baby sister Tiffany. You can find her at "HAPPY DAY" on blogspot.com Tiffany is a Christian mother of two - including a girl named Avery...and a baby boy named Tyson. I think you two should chat. :o)

BTW - loved your table!

Yeah, but how MUCH was the tampax? LOL

Very funny post! And ADORABLE table!!!!!

Hi. My sister told me that after reading your post, she felt like we should be friends! I have a 3 year old named Avery and a baby boy. I, too, am a recovering perfectionist. : ) Gotta love this blogging world!
That table was a great find. I would have paid $9.99 for it too. You made it extra beautiful with your sanding and paint job! Love it! What a cute little helper you have too!

Your scary Goodwill looks almost as scary as mine! The biggest difference is that mine would have charged you $25 for that table, if not more! I get so mad every time I go. Of course your table is adorable. You and your assistant did a great job!

Happy Painting,
Rachel

P.S. Thanks for stopping by my little blog!

LOL! I never find anything at our GW's. Everything is overpriced.

Beautiful table.

I must tell you, I NEVER, EVER would have expected to find you on a Goodwill Site! My mom and I have laughed and laughed at your aversion to anything thrifted. So when I came across your name and pic on this blog, I nearly fell out of my chair!

I LOVE, LOVE Goodwill! Yes, the potty chairs are a bit creepy. My husband has repeatedly said "You may buy anything there. But do not take our underwear there to donate and don't buy underwear there!" hee-hee.

Hope you are doing well in the South. We miss you at WCS. :)

This post made me crack up!!! You are hilarious. I'm going to head to the Goodwill today. This should be interesting!

That's the Bartlett Goodwill, right! Yes, its scary, but this past week they had some great finds. I think their starting to put out more wooden shelves and furniture. I even saw a bedroom suit minus the bed that I had as a little girl this week. I love the table, I'm debating on hauling the kids to Goodwill after their nap. Hmmm, maybe I'll go tomorrow without the kids, more time to find the really good stuff. Great blog, can't wait to see what you find next.

Can she come over here and sand for me?

Call me crazy, but I love that hand. A little spray paint and I could hold the world in the palm of my hand!
