After making my valentine banner, I decided to try something new. I heard a little rumor that the Cricut could cut things like fabric and vinyl, so I bought some vinyl sticker sheets from an Ebay store to make some labels for Avery's sippy cups.
Evidently, you can buy low-tack transfer tape and deep cutting blades just for the purpose of working with vinyl stickers, but I didn't know about those things until after I made my labels. I did it the hard way.
I used the regular blades that came with my Cricut and set the blade dial to "high pressure".
Then I peeled the backing off of the letters and placed them ONE BY ONE on each sippy cup.
UGH.
It was a real pain-in-the-rear to place each letter on the cups evenly without the transfer tape.
It worked out, but it would have been sooo much easier if I had had some tape.
I used my Alphalicious cartridge for the lettering and managed to get nearly 20 labels cut out of one 8 1/2 X 11 sheet: Lots of tiny names and one big one.
Not bad, huh?
I was a little worried about how the vinyl would hold up on the sippy cups, but I've washed them a few times now, and they are still hanging in there!
I put the large letters on Avery's lap tray. Since she eats and colors on her tray every day, it gets a lot of use. It was originally painted with paint pens, but in true paint pen fashion, it rubbed away in 2.4 seconds. I'm hoping that the vinyl lasts longer.
The first time I put the tray down in front of her, she promptly began to pick at the vinyl.
I put a stop to that pretty quickly.
Over-reaction may have occurred. Possibly. The details are a bit fuzzy.
Avery's probably emotionally scarred for life now. Over vinyl letters.

The dorky teacher in me takes the time at least once a day to point to the letters on the tray and spell her name to her.
If she could roll her eyes, I'm sure she would.
I have a feeling that it's not that far down the road!
It makes my label-lovin' heart so happy to see pretty little letters written neatly on anything and everything.

well, since i *am* avery's teacher, i won't feel dorky about the fact that i spell her name out for her at preschool every day...and whose kid could spell her name before she could say the alphabet? so yeah, dorks rawk.
and i love the letters!! seriously adorable :)
i need to check into getting one of those. love all that YOU make with it! mine of course, would NEVER turn out looking that good!
